Equipment for a long distance walk

Planning for a trip with equipment

What equipment do you need to complete a long distance solo hike in summer in the North East of England? 

I don’t know, but I’m willing to find out.

So far my equipment list is:

  • 65l backpack
  • British army bivvi bag
  • Sleeping bag (3 season)
  • Silk sleeping bag liner
  • Foam roll mat
  • Small tarp
  • Heavy Walking boots
  • Walking socks x 3
  • Light weight walking trousers (non-water proof)
  • Light weight technical t-shirt
  • Fleece jacket
  • Insulated rain jacket
  • Water proof trousers
  • Water proof jacket
  • Summer hat
  • Beanie hat
  • Wool gloves
  • small stove
  • Gas canister
  • Mess tin
  • Head torch
  • First aid kit including blister plasters and Vaseline
  • String hammock
  • Fixed blade knife
  • Folding knife
  • Fire steel
  • Compass
  • 1 County Durham OS Map
  • 700ml Water bottle
  • Smartphone

There are things I on this list I know I won’t need (knives!) but quite a lot will be taken.

I know I need to get the following items:

  • Water filter
  • Inflatable sleeping mat
  • Walking poles
  • Lighter weight walking boots
  • Digital camera
  • Solar powered power bank
